How Do I Choose the Right Online Counsellor?

Virtual Therapy Across Five Provinces

Everest Therapeutics makes professional mental health care more accessible through confidential video appointments. Our clinicians work with clients located in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Ontario.

The team includes registered professionals with diverse clinical backgrounds and areas of training. Support is available for concerns such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, traumatic experiences, grief, relationship difficulties, substance use, body image, pregnancy and postpartum mental health, workplace burnout, emotional regulation and major life changes.

Individual therapy, relationship counselling and appointments for teenagers are available through select clinicians. French-language sessions and identity-affirming care are also offered by members of the team.

Professional registration requirements differ between provinces. For this reason, the therapist available to you will depend on where you are physically located at the time of your appointment.

Therapy That Fits Into Your Life

Video-based therapy can reduce some of the practical barriers associated with attending appointments in person. There is no travel time, and you can participate from home or another private setting where you feel comfortable.

Remote appointments may be especially helpful for people who:
-
Live in a rural or remote community
-
Have limited local access to specialized mental health services
-
Need greater flexibility around work, school or caregiving
-
Feel more comfortable speaking from a familiar environment
-
Experience mobility, transportation or accessibility barriers
-
Want to work with a therapist who has experience with a specific concern
-
Prefer to avoid travelling during difficult weather
-
Are looking for mental health support beyond their immediate community
Choosing a Virtual Therapist
Credentials and professional experience matter, but finding a strong personal fit is also important. Some people want a warm and gentle therapist, while others prefer someone more structured, practical, neutral or direct.
When exploring the clinician profiles, consider:
-
The issues or experiences you want to address
-
The therapist’s professional background and training
-
Their personality and style of communication
-
Whether they see individuals, couples or teenagers
-
The jurisdictions in which they are registered
-
Their daytime, evening or weekend schedule
-
Whether they provide services in English or French
-
Their professional designation and your benefit-plan requirements
Our Therapist Fit Tool can help you compare these factors and identify clinicians who may suit your needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which provinces do you serve?

Virtual appointments are available in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Ontario.

Each clinician has different provincial registrations. Their profile will identify where they are able to provide services.

Can my therapist live in a different province?
Yes. The clinician and client do not need to reside in the same province. However, the therapist must be permitted to practise in the province where the client is physically located during the session.

Is virtual therapy effective?
Research supports video-based psychotherapy as an effective option for many common mental health concerns. Its suitability depends on the client’s needs, circumstances, comfort with technology and access to a private environment.

A free consultation can help you determine whether remote sessions are appropriate for you.

Are appointments available for teenagers?
Yes. Select team members provide virtual therapy for youth aged 12 and older. Their profiles identify their experience and areas of focus involving adolescent mental health.

Everest Therapeutics does not currently provide therapy for children under 12.

Can couples attend remotely?
Yes. Relationship therapy is available online through select clinicians. Partners may attend from the same location or, when appropriate, join the video appointment from separate private spaces.

Is French-language therapy available?
Yes. Bilingual clinicians on our team provide sessions in both English and French. Their profile pages include language and provincial availability.

What concerns can I receive support for?
The team provides care across a broad range of needs, including mood concerns, excessive worry, neurodivergence, difficult relationships, trauma recovery, bereavement, substance use, self-worth, eating and body concerns, parenting transitions and workplace stress.

Because each clinician has different experience
and training, review their complete biography before booking.

Are remote sessions covered by insurance?
Many benefit plans cover video appointments with eligible registered social workers or licensed counselling professionals. Reimbursement depends on your policy, province and the designation of the clinician providing the service.

Direct billing is available for many plans when permitted by the insurer.
What technology do I need?

You will need a device with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection and a private place to speak. Appointment access information will be provided before your session.
Headphones can provide additional privacy when other people are nearby.
Can I attend while travelling?

Tell your therapist where you will be physically located during every appointment. Your clinician may be unable to continue a session if you are visiting a province or country where they are not authorized to practise.
What if I cannot decide who to book with?

Read the team biographies to compare therapeutic styles, experience and areas of practice. You can also complete the Therapist Fit Tool or schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation for help identifying suitable options.
