Set Boundaries, Find Peace: A Guide to Reclaiming Yourself
Author: Nedra Glover Tawwab
Set Boundaries, Find Peace - Everest Reads Book Club
At Everest Therapeutics, our Everest Reads Book Club explores mental health topics that show up in real life, not just in theory.
Our next feature is Set Boundaries, Find Peace by Nedra Glover Tawwab, a practical and accessible guide to understanding and setting healthy boundaries.
What This Book Is About
Set Boundaries, Find Peace explains what boundaries are and why many people struggle to set them.
It looks at everyday situations like saying no without guilt, managing family expectations, navigating relationships, and protecting your time and energy.
The book offers clear examples of how boundaries show up in daily life and how to begin putting them into practice.
Why Boundaries Matter
In therapy, boundary work comes up often.
Many people we work with across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island experience feeling overwhelmed, difficulty saying no, guilt when prioritizing themselves, and challenges in relationships.
Learning to set boundaries can support stronger relationships, reduced burnout, increased self-respect, and better emotional regulation.
How This Connects to Therapy
Boundary work is often part of trauma-informed therapy, anxiety support, ADHD and overwhelm work, and couples and relationship therapy.
At Everest Therapeutics, we integrate these conversations into our work with clients in Moncton, New Brunswick and through virtual therapy across Atlantic Canada and Ontario.

Fierce Self-Compassion: How to Harness Kindness to Speak Up, Claim Your Power, and Thrive
Author: Kristin Neff
What Is Fierce Self-Compassion?
Fierce Self-Compassion expands on the idea that caring for yourself isn’t just about being gentle — it’s also about being strong, protective, and willing to take action when needed.
This approach blends two key parts of self-compassion:
-
Tender self-compassion – offering yourself kindness, understanding, and care
-
Fierce self-compassion – setting boundaries, speaking up, and advocating for your needs
Together, these create a more balanced and sustainable way of supporting your mental health.
Why This Matters
In therapy, we often see people who are:
-
Highly self-critical
-
Struggling to set boundaries
-
Feeling overwhelmed by expectations or responsibilities
Learning to practice both self-kindness and self-protection can be an important part of building:
-
Confidence
-
Emotional resilience
-
Healthier relationships
