Meet Mel | Virtual Therapist for NL, NB & NS

Mel is a Master of Social Work therapist with Everest Therapeutics providing virtual counselling across Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia. She works with adults and youth experiencing addiction and substance use concerns, anxiety, depression, trauma and PTSD, stress and burnout, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, and major life transitions.

With a strong clinical background in mental health and addictions, Mel provides practical, compassionate, and non-judgmental therapy for people navigating challenges that can feel complicated or interconnected. She understands that substance use, mental health, relationships, trauma, stress, and difficult life experiences rarely exist in isolation.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms or diagnoses, Mel works collaboratively with clients to understand what is happening beneath the surface, identify patterns that may be keeping them stuck, strengthen coping skills, and develop realistic strategies for moving forward.

Addiction & Substance Use Counselling

Addiction and substance use counselling is a particular area of focus in Mel’s practice. She supports individuals who are questioning their relationship with alcohol or substances, considering making a change, navigating recovery, experiencing setbacks, or managing both substance use and mental health concerns.

You do not need to have everything figured out before starting therapy. You may know that something needs to change without knowing exactly what that change should look like.

Mel provides a non-judgmental space to explore your relationship with substances, better understand patterns and triggers, identify the role substance use may be playing in your life, and work toward goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you.

Her experience with addictions and concurrent mental health concerns allows her to support clients who may also be experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, emotional dysregulation, or relationship difficulties alongside substance use.

Anxiety, Depression & Mental Health Counselling

Mel provides virtual therapy for people experiencing anxiety, depression, overwhelm, chronic stress, burnout, low self-esteem, and difficulty coping with everyday life.

Therapy can help you better understand the patterns influencing your thoughts, emotions, relationships, and behaviours while developing practical strategies for managing difficult moments.

Drawing from approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practice, Mel adapts therapy to the needs and goals of each client.

Trauma & PTSD Support

Past experiences can continue to affect how we respond to stress, relationships, conflict, emotions, and everyday situations.

Mel provides trauma-informed counselling for trauma and PTSD, helping clients explore the impact of difficult experiences at a pace that feels manageable. Her approach emphasizes safety, collaboration, emotional regulation, coping strategies, and developing a greater understanding of the patterns that may have developed in response to past experiences.

Youth & Teen Counselling

Mel also has experience supporting children, adolescents, and families within mental health settings.

She provides virtual counselling for youth and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, stress, relationship challenges, substance use concerns, and other mental health difficulties.

Her approach creates space for young people to talk openly about what they are experiencing while developing practical skills for managing emotions, communicating needs, navigating relationships, and coping with the challenges that can come with adolescence.

A Practical, Collaborative Approach to Therapy

Mel’s counselling style is compassionate, collaborative, and grounded in meeting people where they are.

Therapy is not about being judged, being told what you should do, or having to make major changes before you are ready. Instead, Mel works alongside clients to understand what has been happening, recognize strengths, develop new coping strategies, and identify manageable steps toward meaningful change.

Whether you are struggling with addiction or substance use, anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, emotional regulation, relationships, or a difficult period in your life, you do not need to have a perfect explanation for what is happening before reaching out.
